We had our first ever workshop today! Ongoing and new clients came and had a go at 1. getting their dogs to jump hurdles 2. scent work 3. toy play in particular, retrieval skills. For those of you that don't know what Scent Hurdling is- it is a relay race, there is 4 people in your team, your dog jumps 4 hurdles, retrieves a dumbbell that is scented by you (out of 4 dumbbells in total) and carries it back over the hurdles to you. Then your team mate runs! The quickest team wins!
It was so nice to see so many people having fun with their dogs and being super respectful of others and their dogs. I really do get great clients! It was lovely to see people who were struggling with toy play- for their dogs to then engage and retrieve. Dogs that had never taken a hurdle in their life, and unsure of what to do take 4 hurdles!
What's coming up for SHUK?
Well we have our first committee meeting this week; I will introduce you to them (they are on the website under SHUK- take a look) Janet Thompson is our chair of committee, Linda Clark is our secretary of committee and Jen Renolds is Treasurer of committee. I'm looking forward to this meeting and seeing where we can take SHUK.
In the mean time, we will be training up our dogs and getting ready for running a friendly competition! Nothing spurs on training than setting a date for our first ever competition.
Are you interested in having a go at Scent Hurdling?
We run classes every Tuesday at 6:30pm and Thursdays at 10:00am. Drop me a message to book on.
